I love the water and always have. Most of my favourite childhood holiday memories involve me swimming in a hotel pool while my Nana read her book in a deck chair. Lots of my favourite adult holiday memories involve a pool as well (oh, Villa Tortuga, how I miss you)! I am so beyond thrilled that my girl is another landlocked mermaid! Adeline is becoming such an awesome and fearless swimmer. So fearless that I would probably like her to show just a little more caution, but we're always very close by when she's in the water and she does seem to know her limits. So so so thankful for prescription goggles! Before we got them she was happy, but so cautious at the pool and you could tell she felt very vulnerable. With a -10 prescription Adeline can't see clearly beyond about 4 inches from her face, so it's surprising she liked the pool at all. Now she's got goggles that help her see (not perfectly though and they really squash her eyes, but she doesn't complain) and she has two sets of private swim lessons behind her and she is a jumping, leaping, splashing, underwater-swimming maniac! Adeline's not much of a floater though, as she's very lean. Her back float is incredible...except that it's six inches below the surface of the water...
Adeline is even working on some tricks like handstands. Just a little more practice and she'll have it.
Here are David and Adeline going down the amazing, huge and FAST waterslide, in direct contravention of at least three of the stated seven water slide rules. I probably would have followed the rules, but David is born to be a rebel... Adeline grinned the WHOLE TIME - she even came up from the dunk at the end grinning.
Some might find it odd that when we go to the big city we stay at the casino, but it's got the best pool, really swanky rooms, a central location close to lots of tasty food options and access to a rapid transit station without even going outside. I love a good hotel pool and this one is probably the best I've seen for families. It's clean, bright, big, pretty and it has a great waterslide. It's best feature and one you don't see at many hotel pools is that there is a large shallow area where the water is two to three feet deep. Adeline is only 38 inches tall so she needs a pool this shallow. Adeline also loved that to get to the pool from our hotel room you had to take a series of elevators and then a moving sidewalk. Quite an adventure!
Ahhhh...I wish I was in the pool RIGHT NOW!
