The Fur Babies

One of the questions we get asked a lot is "So, how are the cats coping?". The answer surprises even us. They're doing just fine! If you don't know about our two kitties you should go read a little about Zephyr and Musette. I'll wait. Come on back and we'll pick up from here... Note that under Zephyr's fears is listed "little girls"...

So we really expected Zephyr to hide in the basement, never to be seen again, but much to everyone's surprise he's the one who thinks Adeline is not just okay, but rather fascinating, and it's Musette who doesn't even want to be in the same room with her. Poor Musette is really missing her humans as she's very much a lap cat, and she saves it all up for a festival of purring and petting at bedtime and she is all over any company we get. Zephyr gets his loving in little bits here and there and is even willing to share a lap with Adeline if that's what it takes. His lifestyle (mostly nap based) hasn't changed at all and he is as mellow as ever. We're so relieved as we were worried that we were ruining his life forever by adding to our family. It wouldn't have stopped us from bringing home Adeline, but we're glad he continues to live the good life.

Waiting

This morning while I was waiting for the paint to dry in the playroom so that I could start moving in the furniture, I spotted Musette rolling around in the warm spring sunshine. I wonder if this will still be her favourite spot once Adeline is here?

Musette and Zephyr are so lucky that they have good friends who are willing to visit them while we're gone. My Mom will be here the first week as she's off for spring break and then she'll come down on the weekends so they won't be alone for too long. What spoiled kitties! It's so comforting to know that they'll be well cared for while we're gone.

And then when we finally get home? Oh my...their quiet little world will be turned upside down!

A Project...

...which Musette is convinced is for her. Everywhere I leave this, she finds it and lays on it, usually after digging it up into a cozy little nest. I was sure I was safe leaving it on the teetery ironing board in the kitchen overnight, but no.

 

I'm not sure what it is yet. So far it's a 36 X 36 square of patchwork in a very nostalgic (for me, anyway) palette of browns, oranges yellows and blues. It might get bigger, but then again it might be just the right size. I'm not sure if I'll quilt it or make it into a thinner summer weight blanket. Or maybe it's a picnic cloth. Or maybe it's something completely different. Not sure yet, but I did really enjoy the orderliness of lining it all up and sewing it together. Musette doesn't care what I think it might be - she's happy with it right now and thinks it's a fabulous cat mat.

Musette just wanted a few people to tell her how beautiful she is...

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. For us it's a mix of house renovations, putting the garden to bed for the winter, getting ready for the small person and trying to catch up on sleep so we can shake the sniffles that have been plaguing us for the last few weeks. We're also meeting some friends for Vietnamese food so that we can hear all about their plans for their upcoming trip to Vietnam to be united with their daughter! Their sweet girl is just 2 weeks younger than our Lam, so it's amazing and wonderful that they will have each other as they grow up. I hope the two girls will be great friends - I can just picture their two dark heads pressed close together as they whisper secrets to each other.

So Helpful (Sew Helpful?)

Musette's job is to make sure that nothing is left uncovered in fur in this house. She's very good at it, and she takes her work seriously. And if something is soft and in a sunny spot it's sure to make it to the top of her list of "Places I Need to Sleep". I left my current project draped over the sewing machine and returned not long after to find her extremely pleased with the renovation I had made to the work table. She thought it looked just right for a long cat nap. After she posed so nicely for photos I did let her stay there for a little while. I just couldn't be that mean.
