We made it home last night at nearly midnight, and were really happy that we made it at all. Living on an island has a lot of advantages, but ferry travel is NOT one of them. We rushed ourselves to arrive at the ferry at about 20 minutes after 6 o'clock, thinking we'd likely get on the 7 ferry but were told that the 7 was totally full and that there was only a small chance we'd make it on the 9, which is the last sailing of the night. If we didn't get squeezed onto the 9 o'clock our options were to find a hotel somewhere and try again in the morning, which would have made a huge hassle for David and work, or catch the 10:45 sailing which goes to another place in the middle of Vancouver Island which would mean we would then have to drive for a couple of hours to get home (Vancouver Island is BIG). Since David really needed to be at work at 9 the next day, we were resigned to the 10:45 to Duke Point as the only viable option which meant sitting in line up for more than 4 hours and then the ferry sailing and then having to drive down island for 2 hours and getting home around 3 a.m. Oh so luckily, us and only 6 cars after us managed to make it onto the 9 o'clock sailing which took us straight home. We were so relieved. When you think you might be getting to bed after 3, midnight seems pretty awesome. We passed the time in the ferry line up and during the sailing by 1)complaining about how lousy BC Ferries are, 2) watching "My Kid Could Paint That" on the portable DVD player and 3)eating some delicious treats we had bought at a Granville Island bakery earlier that day. All in all it worked out just fine, although definitely more stressful than it should have been. I suppose I should have felt bad for the long line of cars left behind as we drove onto the ferry, but David and I were too busy high-fiving and whooping to really think too much about them. My long weekend in Vancouver was FABULOUS. Full of fun (except for the part where I really, really needed to pee and couldn't find a public washroom ANYWHERE in Chinatown) and I'm looking forward to blogging about my adventures. But not today... it seems that as a souvenir of the trip I've brought home the stomach flu or food poisoning or something. I've barely dragged myself to the keyboard to write this much and it's taken it all out of me. Hopefully after some tea and toast, David taking care of me, lots of sympathy and a good nights sleep I'll feel like downloading the pictures and writing all about it tomorrow.
Hope you feel better soon
